The first truth revealed to me at Gokarna. As I was reading the first few pages of the Gita, it talked about the ego and the self, and how the self is everything - that this is where our seat of consciousness should be, not in the ego. I've been exploring this idea for quite some time now in my head - that we are all one universe, consciousness is just an awareness of the universe witnessing itself. It's like a mirror where the universe is looking at itself and making sense of it, and the universe wants to know more - that's why it documents, it pushes humans to be creative, to go beyond the edge, to build AI which can help it witness faster.
That's what existence is - a universe looking at itself through conscious beings. The senses, the emotions, the feelings, the ego - this is all machinery, like a robot the universe holds to look through clearly. Consciousness was the best invention of the universe. We are all conscious beings giving the universe a different perspective of itself.
Now the beautiful part was the invention of language and communication, because now we can communicate the picture of the universe between each other and collect and aggregate it together. I can never be a woman living in Gokarna, but talking to one and having her share her experience, I can live that version of the universe. That's why empathy and curiosity are the highest virtues. Everything is one - all of us on that beach were one, including the sea that was in front of me. I was just looking at myself.
I like how the Gita emphasises that nothing else apart from this explanation of existence would make sense - no matter what path you take, jnana, bhakti, karma, or raja yoga, you'll end up here. The truth that I'm already complete, already there - as much as my leg is mine, so is everything in the universe. I don't cut off my leg and hold onto my hand to prove to my ego it's mine; similarly, I don't have to own or hold onto things for them to be mine. It's there. I can affect things, I can nudge things, I can move the universe according to me, if and only if my highest goal is curiosity and empathy - because that favours the goal of the ever-seeking universe.
On the beach, among the pages of the Gita, with the wind flowing through my hair and my eyes on the sea, I discovered the truth about existence - about it all.
